WRITTEN BY CHERYL WELLS
Our theme for this year is going to be God’s Glory! I feel like that word always needs to have an exclamation point after it! I googled God’s glory and it said the word glory (from the Latin Gloria, “fame, renown”) is used to describe the manifestation of God’s presence as perceived by humans. It also means brilliant, radiant beauty. It’s really how we see God show up and we are amazed! What a year this will be for us all to watch and see how God is going to show Himself to us, and also how He has in the past by looking at God’s Word. I believe this will be a glorious year!
To start our year this first month I want us to watch every morning and every evening for God’s glory on display in the sunrise and sunset. As I am writing this it is early morning and I can’t wait to see the sunrise as it will be coming any minute. My grandchildren are so sweet and they know that I always tell them to look up at the sky and I ask them what we are seeing?! They always know my answer is the same – God’s glory on display! I am going to ask you to remember that this month. Every day we can see the sunrise and the sunset and the sky throughout the day and God wants to show us Himself and remind us that He is in control and that He brings beauty and His presence into our lives every day as a result of who He is. Wow!
The main verse that I want us to focus on this year, no matter what, is from Zechariah. It reads:
“For I, declares the Lord, will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.”
Zechariah 2:5
God is speaking about His favor to Zion. He speaks this over us and to us and it is a blessing. He is that wall of fire that protects us from harm and our enemies, and He is the glory in the midst of what is happening! We will see His glory through what He does and how things turn out as we trust His love and rest in Him. It’s key though that we trust His love and believe that we will see Him. It may not turn out like we think, but we walk by faith and seek His will in the situation. His presence is with us and it will always be beautiful. No matter what.
Get into God’s presence by being still and focusing on His love. No talking.
Thank Him that He is a wall of fire around you. It’s a beautiful sight to consider too. Know and trust that you are safe and covered. Think about that for a few minutes in meditation.
Ask God to manifest His glory and commit to Him to watch for it. He will show you the expression of His excellence. We want His excellence to come out of our lives. That’s glory!
