Faithful in Trying Times

WRITTEN BY CHERYL WELLS

A common thing that people are saying is that they don’t know what to believe or who they can trust. These are very trying times and what does that mean?  I looked up the definition and it means hard to endure. Endure means to suffer patiently or remain in existence and to last. There are many things that each of us is dealing with on a personal level, as well as in our communities and nationally and globally. Again, these are trying times. BUT God is with us. And He is faithful always.

I love God’s stories of faithfulness to His own. First of all, let’s talk about the fact that this is for his children. Are you one of his children? To have a relationship with God we must come to him in humility through Jesus. Jesus said I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”  (John 10:9)

So the question is are you saved and have you come through Jesus? This is about a personal relationship with God, and Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It’s a surrendering of our will to Him. It’s giving up our own life and taking up our cross to follow Him. And the rest of that promise says that we will go in and out and find pasture. That’s a beautiful thing to think about, with Jesus being our shepherd and our doorkeeper; there is provision and a pasture for us as sheep.  The rest of the passage talks about him being the good shepherd and that he gave his life for us. He is so faithful.

John 10:10, which is the very next verse, says “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  So in this passage, we can see that everything that we are enduring, and going through is because of the thief, the enemy of our soul. BUT it also goes on to say that Jesus came to give us life that is abundant! No matter what it is that we are going through, Jesus is with us to give us abundant life. It’s not about our circumstances, but we must lift our eyes and see the faithfulness of God. He is the trustworthy One.

I have seen and experienced the faithfulness of God, over and over. I can look back and remember, and I see God‘s faithfulness even in 2020 and now in 2021. My focus and my attitude have been on that. Where has your focus been? Have you kept a check on your attitude and managed that? God will give us the strength to do that, and wisdom in the midst of whatever we are going through.

  1.  Please consider whether you are a child of God and if you are not, humble yourself and ask Jesus to forgive you and to come in and lead your life. Surrender to his love. ❤️
  2. Are you going in and out and finding pasture? Do you trust God to provide in these uncertain times and claim that In faith, believing, And receiving?
  3. If you have been angry or blamed God for any of what has been happening, I want to encourage you to run to him and ask him for forgiveness in the midst of your honesty with him. He can handle it, he already knows.
  4. Ask God for the abundant life and begin to believe it and live it!
  5. Look back and see the faithfulness of God and thank him for it!
  6. Keep your attitude in check by constantly praising him for his faithfulness. Claim a promise, maybe each month?

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.
