Light Shine Bright

I sat in my seat in the arena next to my bride. We were in the upper bowl, the lights were off and the arena was dark. Appearing gradually, a lone spotlight pierced the darkness and highlighted a man. He sat alone at the piano. His fingers slowly hit key after key creating something beautiful for those in attendance to hear. After a while his voice chimed in with words of worship to our King.

On the other side of the arena I noticed a single light from a camera shine like a candle as the artists words of worship echoed through the arena along with the hallways and concourses surrounding it. Shortly after that another light.

Then another.

And another.

By the end of the song thousands upon thousands of single lights throughout the arena lit the once dark stadium. The place that was once pitch black was fully illuminated. As bright as it was, it wasn’t the large arena lights nestled in the rafters that gave light. It was small, individual lights combined together that drove the darkness away.

That’s how it’s supposed to be when we have the light of our Savior inside of us. Early in the book of Acts we hear of multiple occasions that many were coming to know the Lord. In Acts 2:41 it says that “… and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” As you continue through the book thousands upon thousands were starting to shine their light for Jesus. This happened because the apostles, those appointed by God to spread the Good News of the Gospel, obeyed and were united in their cause. They were disciplined to do what God had called them to do. The next verse in Acts points this out when it says, “They were continually and faithfully devoting themselves to the instruction of the apostles, and to fellowship, to eating meals together and to prayers.” (Acts 2:42, AMP)

We shine our light when we continually and faithfully obey the teaching of God’s Word and live it out on a daily basis. In doing so, we encourage others to proudly shine their light for others to see and the cycle continues and continues and continues… eventually bringing the much-needed light of Jesus Christ to our very dark world.
