WRITTEN BY CHERYL WELLS
Taking regular care of our bodies helps to keep us healthy, like eating correctly and taking vitamins and supplements, but there are things that we need to do to keep ourselves protected from the attacks of the enemy of our soul. I love that God loves us so much and He gives us what we need to protect ourselves, but we must do our part in that! Don’t we have to get out of bed in the morning and exercise and also we have to know what is healthy for us to eat and not to eat? There is discipline in that for us and also, we have to do our part to protect ourselves spiritually. If we don’t we are just a sitting duck for the enemy to come and pick us off one by one. And in many ways we have allowed that for ourselves personally and for our families and our country. It’s time to wake up and pay attention and follow God’s word that gives us such practical advice and also remember that He means what He says. He will rescue us as we ask and follow His commands. His word is not just some old writing or story that doesn’t apply to us. John 20:30 says, “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, and that believing in him you may live by the power of his name.” The word of God is so important in our lives and it feeds our faith and gives us life!
I have been going to a doctor in Omaha, Nebraska for the last 3 years and I know that God directed me to go there. My health had been very much affected over the years. I am so thankful for Dr. Lozier and the knowledge and the wisdom that God has given him and how he has helped me. The biggest thing that I know that I have learned and applied is that my physical health is my responsibility and I have to discipline myself with my eating and also learn more. Whether it is my physical body or my spirit man, temptations are always lurking and we have an enemy that wants to distract us and get us to take the bait. One bite, or one thought or step in the wrong direction leads us to the path of destruction. I am so thankful that God has directed and protected me through the years as I have sought Him in prayer and daily Bible reading and quiet times. God uses my time with Him to bless me and redirect me and encourage me. I have learned through the years how important it is to routinely seek Him and follow Him and apply what I know He has shown me to do, or say, or pray. His word is our defense and says that the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword in Hebrews 4:12.
Personal Reflection & Application
- Make a place for God in your early mornings by getting into His word because by doing that you are inviting God into your daily life and circumstances. He will bring light and understanding that you did not have before. Would you like some direction and understanding? Just try it…
Psalm 119: 130 – The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.
- God will speak to you through His word directly as you ask Him and trust that He will. Listen and follow His direction and I pray that you will know that it is God that is directing you. Try it…
Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:98 – Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.
- Trust that He will help you live your life in response to His word and what He is showing you specifically.
Psalm 119:165,166 – Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble. I long for your rescue, Lord, so I have obeyed your commands.
Psalm 119:175 – Let me live so I can praise you, and may your regulations help me. I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have forgotten your commands.
Just try it and know that it is His plan and He will be faithful to do what He says.
